Network lesson 1
What is a computer network?
· * A network is systems which inter connect two or more computer (Host) by using special software, hardware and media to share resources and information.
· * A network is any collection of independent computers that communicate with one another over a shared network media. A computer network is a collection of two or more connected computers. When these computers are joined in a network, people can share files and peripherals such as modems, printers, tape, backup drivers or cd rom drivers. When networks at multiple locations are connected using services available from phone companies [(TSP) Tele communication Service Provider].
Network Elements
The Devices
To begin to understand the robustness and complexity of an inter connected computers that may up the internet. It is necessary to start with the basic. Take the example of sending the text message using instant messaging program on a computer, when we think of using network services. We usually think of using a computer to access of them. But a computer is only one type of device that can send and receive messages over a network. Many other types of devices can also be connected to the network to participating in network services. Among these devices are Tele phones, Network cameras, Printers and etc…..
The Messages
In the first step of its journey from the computer to its destination, our instant message gets converted in to a format that can be transmitted on the network. All type of message must be converted to bits, Binary coded digital signal, before being sent to their destination. This is true no matter what the original message format was text, video, voice and computer data.
The Medium
To send our instant message to its destination, the computer must be connected to a wired or wireless local network. Local networks can be installing in home or small businesses, where they enable computers and other devices to share information with each other and to use common connection to the internet.
Wireless networks allow the use of networked device anywhere in an office or home, even out doors. Out side the office or home, wireless networking is available in public host spots such as coffee shop, Business, Hotel rooms and airports.
The Rules
Important aspects of networks that are neither device nor media are rules, or protocols. These rules are standards an protocols the specify how the message are send, how they are directed through the network and how they are interpreted at the destination device, for example, in the case of jabber instant messaging, the XMPP, TCP and IP protocols are all important set of rules, that enable our communication to occur.
The Services
Network services are computer programs that support the human network. Distributed on devices throughout the network, these services facilitate online communication tools such as e mail, chat rooms and instant messaging. In the case of instant messaging, for example an instant messaging service provided by device in the cloud, must be accessible through both the sender and recipients.
